Things they say and do: Pointless conversations

18 05 2012

Reading stories at bedtime. ‘The Snail and the Whale’ in particular. Piran usually reads the book to me first and then I am allowed to read it.

Piran: And there is a monkey and a fish and the snail. Then there is a shark in the sea and then the shark is on the beach.
Me: That isn’t a shark lovely, that’s the whale.
Piran: Shark
Me: Whale
Piran: Shark
Me: Whale
Piran: Shark
Me: Whale
Piran: Shark
Me: Whale. The book is CALLED The Snail and the Whale.
Piran: Yes but it is a shark.
Me: Goodnight Piran.

At the dinner table.

Me: Well done Kate you ate it all.
Piran: Yes Kate, Good Boy.
Kate: Yeah. Yeah. YEAH.
Me: Kate is a good girl Piran not a good boy.
Piran: Good Boy Kate.
Me: No, Good GIRL Kate.
Piran: Good Boy Kate.
Me: She is a girl.
Piran: Good Boy Kate.
Me: Good girl Kate.
Piran: Good Boy Kate.
Me: *sigh*

Driving home earlier this week.

Me: Kate is my daughter and you are my son.
Piran: No. I’m your daughter.
Me: No Kate is a girl so she is my daughter and you are a boy so you are my son.
Piran: I’M your daughter.
Me: No, you are my son.
Piran, No, I’m your daughter.
Me: No, you are my son.
Piran: NO I’M YOUR DAUGHTER.
Me: Oh look there’s a squirrel*

*This particular parenting technique I picked up reading Sally’s blog. It is very useful.

There are many more of these but you get the idea!
Still this is better than when he looks at me, sighs and says “Mummy. I am NOT your friend.”
Cheeky Monkey.
