Review: Frankie & Benny’s New Menus

29 04 2012

At the beginning of April Frankie & Benny’s released four new menus and we were kindly sent a voucher so we could go and check them out.

We went to the restaurant at the Brighton Marina, we have been there before and we always like it as somewhere to grab a meal before we head to the cinema. We had managed to arrange a baby sitter so we were there child free on a Saturday night which was a very nice treat for us!

As we were there in the evening we couldn’t try the new breakfast or lunch menus and the specials menu is only available Sunday – Friday so we had to sample the new dessert menu instead. I take these things very seriously so to limber up we had a lovely starter and main meal from the normal menu and then spent serious time deliberating our choice for dessert. In the end we both picked the Eton Mess Sundae, so we decided to get a sharing one. When it arrived it was massive, and we had fun tucking in and sharing. It was odd to have ice cream with Eton Mess but really delicious.

Between courses I had a browse of the other menus (they are on the table which was handy because I was able to see what would have been available at other times of day). There seemed to be a lot of choice and some great offers – all breakfasts are £5 and you can add unlimited tea or coffee for £1.50. There are set menus and prices for lunch and the specials menu, for example lunch is £5.95 for one course, £8.25 for two or £9.25 for three courses (Mon-Fri 11-5) which would be great if you wanted to budget what you are spending.

The restaurant was very busy on a Saturday night and completely full. It is the sort of place that caters well for large tables and there seemed to be a lot of them. I like a babble of voices in the background but it was quite noisy really. However service was quick and friendly and even though it was busy we never had to wait too long for our food. The only bit I objected to was being plunged into darkness when they bought out a birthday cake and sung Happy Birthday to someone, I suddenly couldn’t see my dinner!

We will definitely go back and I know that if we take the children they will be well catered for as it is a very family friendly place. Maybe we will pick somewhere a little quieter for our next date night however.
