Baby Led Weaning – the first two weeks

31 01 2010

Well, we cheated a little and started a couple of weeks early (Piran was 26 weeks yesterday) but this is how we have been doing so far! I have found it quite frustrating at times, and wonderful, and scary and completely overwhelming! A big mix up then. Yesterday was a big moment as I finally saw ‘evidence’ in his nappy that he had actually swallowed some food! Some things have been more successful than others, and something he is fascinated with one day is completely ignored another but we are having fun. Every day he shows some sign of progress, and now manages to ‘bite’ pieces off, although most fall back out of his mouth and we have survived a few gagging incidents.

So far he has tried: Mango, nectarine, pear, tomato, cucumber, carrot, butternut squash, sweet potato, roast potato, chicken, broccoli, meatball, toast, cream cheese, puree (on toast or with veg dipped in) courgette, cheese.

He obviously has a great appetite and loves food, you are doing all the right things. This stage is about enjoyment and exploration and naturally finding tastes he likes. You are doing a great job(speaks mother of 3 chaps) xx

Extremely Well done you! I so wish I would have done BLW with Little Miss…she's a good eater but no where near as adventurous as your little man. Awesome…keep doing what you're doing! ;)Karin

Hello,Just wanted to say that it all sounds great and those photos are lovely. I BLWed both my children and it was a different experience with both, but really worth it. Good luck with it all!

Very cute pictures, he's doing really well! Good for you, I didn't do BLW with my first two (although second one was left to get on by himself a lot more than the first). Will probably give it a go with number three. Exciting times!

Wow! In 2 weeks that is absolutely fantastic and it will get better and better. You will have down days where you'll worry he's not eating very much but his milk is important. You are doing everything perfectly and should be very proud of yourself!

He's so cute! He'll eventually start eating more. It's a very gradual thing. Try not to worry about how much he's getting. It helps to remember that any solids are just extra to the milk he's eating until at least 1 year.
